- Following success in Singapore, Seoul, and Tokyo, Empyrion Digital expands into Taiwan, strengthening its footprint across four Asian markets and reaching nearly 70MW of co-location capacity.
- The new AI-ready data centre in Taiwan is fully equipped with secure power amidst Taiwan’s energy constraints.

Singapore and Taipei, November 4, 2024 — Empyrion Digital, a leading digital infrastructure platform, has announced its strategic expansion into Taiwan, with plans to develop a 7MW edge co-location data centre in Neihu, Taipei. Having secured 10MW of power, Empyrion’s entry comes as Taiwan faces notable energy shortages, a hurdle for other prospective data centre projects.
Set in Neihu, a prominent technology district in Taipei known for its cluster of gaming, electronics, and tech firms, the Taipei data centre (TW1) is positioned in a network-dense zone where key east-west cable landing stations converge. TW1’s design aims to support the high demands of cloud computing and AI, which legacy data centres often struggle to meet.
As one of Northeast Asia’s most densely populated and technologically advanced economies, Taiwan’s 23 million-strong population has helped it evolve into a global leader in technology and research and development. Taiwan’s status as a critical data centre hub is rapidly growing, with its infrastructure enabling cloud and AI services forecast to generate $226.2 million in co-location revenue in 2024. This figure is projected to climb to $346 million by 2029, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.88% over the period.
Historically, local demand has been the main driver of Taiwan’s co-location market. However, international cloud and content providers as well as enterprises are increasingly entering the Taiwanese market, driving new demand. Empyrion Digital’s entry is well-timed to meet this growing international need, including demand from banking and financial sectors that prioritise secure, compliant solutions.
A standout feature of TW1 is its commitment to sustainability. The data centre will incorporate advanced cooling technology and building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.33 or lower and an impressive Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) nearing net zero. Once complete, TW1 is set to receive Taiwan’s Green Building Gold Certification, reinforcing Empyrion Digital’s leadership in sustainable digital infrastructure.
Mr. Mark Fong, CEO of Empyrion Digital, commented, “We are thrilled to expand into Taiwan; this investment is a major step towards our goal of growth in Asia, where both land and power are in high demand. Taiwan’s dynamic semiconductor sector and skilled tech workforce make it an ideal location to develop the next generation of AI-ready data centres. Our presence here will provide Taiwan’s businesses with the digital infrastructure required to stay competitive and deepen ties with the global technology community.”
He added, “TW1 will complement our existing data centre network across Singapore, Korea, and Japan, enabling us to capture wholesale and edge co-location demand while offering our clients adaptable deployment solutions across these four markets.”
Construction for the TW1 data centre is expected to begin in 2025, with operations set to launch in 2027.
By late 2025, Empyrion Digital aims to expand its platform across Asia to over 170MW in IT load capacity. Presently, the platform operates a 7.7 MW facility in Singapore, is constructing a 29.4 MW centre in Seoul, and will commence construction on a 25MW data centre in Tokyo in early 2025.
