In an age marked by swift advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) has taken a bold leap forward by launching AI71, a new AI company. This venture stems from the Technology Innovation Institute’s (TII) Falcon generative AI models and aims to specialize in multiple domains while providing unprecedented control over AI data, allowing companies and nations to self-host for enhanced privacy.

The inauguration of this powerhouse was overseen by H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, in the presence of several ministers and representatives from top multinational tech firms.

While ATRC’s Technology Innovation Institute developed the Falcon 7B, 40B, and 180B large language models (LLMs), ATRC’s VentureOne subsidiary will drive AI71’s entry into various sectors, starting with medicine, education, and law. By tapping into extensive pools of anonymized data within these verticals—reflecting diverse demographics—AI71 will distinguish itself in today’s AI markets, especially due to the UAE’s highly digitized and advanced e-infrastructure.

Amid a landscape where innovation often outpaces regulatory frameworks, the swift decision-making structure of the UAE government positions the new company uniquely to leverage its responsible AI advancements globally, bypassing the typical lengthy developmental processes.

AI71 plans to enable clients, through collaborations and partnerships, to deploy its AI models while accessing sophisticated data reservoirs, ensuring superior generative AI performance. Crucially, AI71 promises decentralized data ownership, allowing clients to maintain control over their data—a pioneering move setting new standards for privacy and security, particularly vital in AI projects where data sovereignty is a priority. This offering stands as a game-changer for AI accessibility, particularly for enterprises, large corporations, and foreign governments concerned about data privacy.

With a philosophy grounded in promoting innovation across society, AI71 aims to democratize AI technology, ensuring it’s accessible to a wider audience for fostering creative innovation. The company’s focus is on bolstering Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s reputation as a serious AI player, thereby marking a significant milestone in the country’s knowledge economy.

H.E. Faisal Al Bannai, Secretary General of the Advanced Technology Research Council, emphasized the collaborative nature ingrained in the UAE’s approach, highlighting the empowerment AI71 provides to developers, companies, and nations to steer their own data destiny. Al Bannai also affirmed the commitment to open sourcing Falcon AI models, emphasizing the societal benefits of democratizing these invaluable data resources.

AI71’s initial specializations will center on the medical field, aiming to revolutionize diagnosis and decision-making, leading to significant improvements in accuracy and efficiency for patient care. Similarly, the educational and legal sectors stand to benefit from AI integration, bringing nuanced advancements that support societal development.

The company is collaborating with seven partners spanning various domains, including government digitization, AI adoption support, integrated on-premise AI solutions, data labeling services, tech startup incubation, customer use case addressing, and compute power supply.

As AI continues to shape our lives and work, AI71 aims to expand its offerings for enterprises based on industry demand, facilitating widespread AI integration across the economy. It presents an opportunity to spearhead a transformative shift towards an AI-driven ecosystem in the UAE and beyond.

VentureOne, under the umbrella of AI71, will introduce new specializations to cater to the increasing demand from diverse sectors, impacting enterprises, industries, and governments.

In the ever-evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, the establishment of AI71 stands as a testament to Abu Dhabi’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement. With its pioneering approach to democratize AI, prioritize data privacy, and spearhead multi-domain advancements, AI71 signifies a paradigm shift in the way AI is harnessed and made accessible. As it forges ahead, collaborating across sectors and pushing boundaries, AI71 is poised not just to transform industries and governments but also to serve as a beacon, guiding the trajectory of AI development worldwide. Its impact heralds a new era of responsible and inclusive AI deployment, setting the stage for a future where the benefits of advanced technology are truly within reach for all.
