Digital Realty Unveils State-of-the-Art Data Center in India to Propel Digital Transformation

Digital Realty, a global leader in cloud- and carrier-neutral data center solutions, has announced the inauguration of its inaugural data center in India. Situated on a sprawling 10-acre campus in the heart of Chennai’s industrial hub, this facility is poised to play a pivotal role in meeting the escalating demand for top-tier data infrastructure in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

India, predicted to be the world’s third-largest economy by 2027, is witnessing an unprecedented surge in data generation. Digital Realty’s strategic move to establish a robust presence in the country underscores its commitment to providing cutting-edge digital infrastructure to support the diverse needs of businesses navigating the challenges of digital transformation.

The newly launched campus, known as MAA10, is the first phase of a 100-megawatt-capable facility designed to offer 20 megawatts of critical IT load. Boasting a modular infrastructure design, MAA10 allows customers to scale their infrastructure dynamically, accommodating a range of workload demands, from single-cabinet setups to multi-megawatt requirements.

In anticipation of the burgeoning demand for data infrastructure in India, Digital Realty collaborated with Digital Connexion, a joint venture with Brookfield Asset Management and Reliance Industries Limited. This three-way partnership is a testament to the company’s dedication to fostering strong connections and providing unparalleled support to clients navigating the complexities of digital transformation.

MAA10 is well-positioned to support emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, with standardized and customizable configurations to meet high-density power requirements, suitable cooling infrastructure, and the interconnectivity demands of AI workloads. The facility is ready to facilitate the exchange of data in real-time, crucial for businesses seeking to gain valuable insights.

Key to MAA10’s success is its deep interconnectivity, leveraging Jio’s expansive digital and connectivity ecosystem. This collaboration ensures seamless connectivity across India, providing customers with a robust network to support their digital initiatives. The data center is also integrated into PlatformDIGITAL®, Digital Realty’s global data center platform, creating a rich connected data community across 300+ facilities in 50+ metros, spanning 25+ countries on 6 continents.

Serene Nah, Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific at Digital Realty, expressed enthusiasm about the venture, stating, “With a population of 1.4 billion and a growing focus on the delivery of digital services, India represents a key market opportunity for Digital Realty and our partners and customers. We believe MAA10’s next-generation data center infrastructure and Digital Realty’s connected global open data center platform provide the foundational pillars our customers need to innovate and tap into this thriving market.”

In alignment with global sustainability goals, Digital Realty is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of its operations. MAA10 embodies this commitment through sustainable principles applied during its design, construction, and operational practices. The facility prioritizes energy and water efficiency while conserving resources. Moreover, the data center is designed to leverage renewable energy sources, starting with solar power harvested via on-site rooftop solar panels.

CB Velayuthan, CEO of Digital Connexion, shared his excitement about the Chennai-based data center, saying, “We are excited about the launch of our first data center in Chennai. This 100MW campus in Ambattur is ideal, given the availability of the necessary power supply, high number of submarine cable landing stations in the local area, and the state government’s aspirations to make Chennai the top data center destination in India.”

As businesses in India continue to embrace digital transformation, Digital Realty’s MAA10 is poised to be a cornerstone in the nation’s digital infrastructure landscape, providing the connectivity, scalability, and sustainability required to fuel the next phase of technological evolution.
