Cybersecurity Malaysia Commends BlackBerry’s Role in Advancing the Nation’s Digital Security Future

Kuala Lumpur, August 12, 2024 – BlackBerry Limited has been awarded the prestigious Cyber Security Innovation Award (Service) at the Malaysia Cyber Security Awards 2024. The award was given out during CyberDSA, a Kuala Lumpur industry gathering supported by Cybersecurity Malaysia, a division of the Ministry of Digital Malaysia. The CEO of Cybersecurity Malaysia, Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin Bin Abdul Wahab FASc, gave the award to BlackBerry in recognition of the company’s commitment to bolstering Malaysia’s digital security and resilience.
The award acknowledges BlackBerry’s efforts in three key areas: product innovation, education, and service. This recognition is largely due to the successful establishment of the Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence (CCoE) in Cyberjaya, aimed at training and upskilling Malaysia’s cyber workforce. Additionally, BlackBerry’s advanced cybersecurity solutions and services, trusted by organisations globally, have played a pivotal role in securing critical infrastructure, sensitive information, communication platforms, and devices used by mobile workforces.
YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, highlighted the importance of digital trust, stating, “Digital trust strengthens security and resilience through collaboration and shared threat intelligence. By addressing misinformation, safeguarding privacy, and fostering social cohesion, digital trust contributes to a safer and more united society.”
Since first announcing its software and services partnership with the Malaysian Government in November 2023, BlackBerry has significantly contributed to strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity landscape. The opening of the Malaysia CCoE on March 26 marked a major milestone, with over 700 individuals trained at the facility in just five months. BlackBerry has also partnered with internationally accredited training providers, awarded scholarships to women leaders in cybersecurity, and launched the BlackBerry Cybersecurity Curriculum, the first of its kind globally, to equip both public and private sector organisations with essential training and skills.
Tash Stamatelos, Vice President of APAC at BlackBerry, expressed his pride in receiving the award, stating, “We are deeply honoured to receive the Cyber Security Service Innovation Award. This recognition underscores our commitment to supporting Malaysian organisations in enhancing their cyber defences and advancing the digital economy. We are grateful to Cybersecurity Malaysia and the Ministry of Digital for this esteemed award. In collaboration with the government, private sector, and academic institutions, BlackBerry is dedicated to training and upskilling Malaysia’s cyber workforce at the Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence and continuing to innovate in cybersecurity, helping to create a safer digital environment for Malaysia and the ASEAN region.”
In an era where advanced technologies, including Generative AI, are increasingly used to breach defences and access sensitive data, BlackBerry’s comprehensive suite of cybersecurity solutions stands out. This includes industry-leading solutions powered by Cylance® AI, such as the newly launched CylanceMDR™ Pro, a managed detection and response service designed to significantly enhance the cybersecurity capabilities of organisations of all sizes. Furthermore, BlackBerry offers NATO-certified SecuSUITE® to prevent eavesdropping and interception, Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) to secure data and applications used by mobile workers, and AtHoc® for critical event management and incident response in the face of IT disruptions, cyberattacks, or natural disasters.
BlackBerry’s commitment to securing Malaysia’s digital future is further reinforced by its recent report on Software Supply Chain trends, which revealed key gaps in the nation’s interconnected digital supply chain and highlighted the compliance measures needed to bolster cyber resilience and trust in critical sectors such as manufacturing. These insights highlight BlackBerry’s efforts to support Malaysia’s strategic objectives for security and economic growth, which follow the announcement of the National Semiconductor Strategy in May and the passage of the Cybersecurity Act 2024.
