Singapore, September 26, 2024 Databricks, a leading company in Data and AI, has further reinforced its commitment to nurturing local talent in Singapore by enhancing skills in data and AI. In collaboration with NTUC LearningHub and the NUS School of Continuing and Lifelong Education (NUS SCALE), Databricks is launching new initiatives to address the growing demand for talent in these critical fields.

Today, Databricks formalised its collaboration by signing two Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) with NTUC LearningHub and NUS SCALE. These agreements are part of a broader effort to upskill over 10,000 data and AI professionals in Singapore over the next three years.

Both NTUC LearningHub and NUS SCALE are recognised as key training partners by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), appointed to help scale upskilling and reskilling efforts in areas such as AI, Cloud, Mobility, and Software Engineering. This initiative aligns with the Jobs Transformation Map (JTM) for the Information & Communications (I&C) sector and is supported by IMDA’s TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) program. TeSA has already facilitated the placement of 17,000 local professionals in tech roles and has upskilled or reskilled over 231,000 individuals.

These collaborations highlight Databricks’ ongoing partnership with IMDA, a relationship prominently featured at the recent Data + AI World Tour Singapore.

Nick Eayrs, Vice President of Field Engineering for Asia Pacific & Japan at Databricks, commented, “Our mission is to democratise access to data and AI, empowering every organisation to achieve data-driven insights. By investing in data and AI talent, we aim to foster innovation in today’s rapidly evolving business landscape. We are thrilled to partner with NTUC LearningHub and NUS ICT Academy to make these tools and knowledge accessible to diverse learners, enabling them to build rewarding, future-proof careers in Singapore.”

Diverse Opportunities with NUS SCALE to Boost Data and AI Literacy in Singapore

Databricks and NUS SCALE will explore various avenues to combine Databricks’ industry expertise with NUS’ academic strengths, helping to upskill Singapore’s workforce. Their collaboration may include the development of courses, modules, and certification packages aimed at students and professionals looking to enhance their technical skills. The goal is for participants to gain hands-on experience with Databricks’ Data Intelligence Platform, AI models, and advanced technologies while staying informed about emerging trends.

Associate Professor Chai Kah Hin, Associate Provost (Masters’ Programmes & Lifelong Education), stated, “This initiative creates a wealth of opportunities for professionals from various sectors to enhance their knowledge in AI and Data Literacy. We are excited to work with Databricks to develop innovative programs that will equip Singapore’s workforce with the skills needed to thrive in a dynamic, tech-driven future.”

Additionally, the partnership will involve community-focused activities such as hackathons, mentorship schemes, and industry events, including seminars and workshops, all designed to build a strong talent pipeline for a data-driven world.

Databricks employees will also have the opportunity to enhance their expertise in fields like business, computing, and engineering, through specialised training aligned with NUS courses.
