Fortinet Releases 2024 Sustainability Report, Underscoring Climate Action and Cybersecurity Talent Commitment

Singapore, 23 April 2025 — Cybersecurity firm Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, offering a detailed review of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives over the past year. The report showcases the company’s continued efforts to integrate sustainability into its operations, product design, partnerships, and global talent programmes.

“As digital transformation accelerates, cybersecurity is more critical than ever to safeguarding businesses, the global economy and society at large,” said Michael Xie, Founder, President and CTO at Fortinet. “Fortinet is committed to having our products, services, and people contribute to building a more secure and sustainable society—from improving the environmental impact of our products through energy efficiency and more sustainable packaging, to our commitment to closing the cybersecurity skills gap by training 1 million individuals by 2026. We are proud of the progress we’ve made and remain committed to integrating sustainability across all aspects of our operations.”

Responsible Innovation and Global Cybercrime Disruption

Fortinet’s innovation engine continues to drive its sustainability strategy, with nearly 1,400 patents granted and more than 450 pending. The company is advancing AI-enabled cybersecurity solutions through collaborations with institutions including UC Berkeley, the World Economic Forum, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). In 2024, Fortinet became one of the early signatories of CISA’s Secure by Design pledge, reaffirming its commitment to secure development practices across the product lifecycle.

In parallel, Fortinet deepened its involvement in global initiatives to combat cybercrime. Its contributions in 2024 to INTERPOL’s Operation Serengeti and the World Economic Forum’s Cybercrime Atlas Project supported the arrest of over 1,000 individuals, dismantled more than 134,000 malicious networks, and aided in the recovery of US$44 million.

Climate Strategy and Product Impact

Fortinet’s near-term greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), include Scope 1 and 2 commitments in line with a 1.5°C climate pathway. Scope 3 targets focus on engaging suppliers and customers to cut emissions across the value chain.

Further progress was made on product-level sustainability. New FortiGate models introduced in 2024 are, on average, 61% more energy efficient compared to prior generations. The company also expanded its use of sustainable materials, rolling out 22 FSC-certified packaging models and achieving an 86-product milestone in plastic-free packaging, helping to avoid 387 metric tons of CO₂e emissions and cut plastic use by 77 metric tons.

Advancing Cybersecurity Education and Ethics

Since 2022, over 630,000 individuals have completed Fortinet’s cybersecurity training programmes. The company also pledged to train 75,000 people in the EU by 2027, as part of the European Commission’s Cybersecurity Skills Academy. In 2024, Fortinet contributed to the development of the World Economic Forum’s Strategic Cybersecurity Talent Framework, further reinforcing its role in global workforce development.

Ethical governance and information security remain core priorities. All of Fortinet’s top-tier contract manufacturers and distributors (representing 90% of spend) completed business ethics and compliance training in 2024. The company strengthened its certification portfolio with 81 accreditations, including ISO 27001/17/18 and SOC 2 Type II, underscoring its commitment to privacy and data security.

Recognition for Responsible Leadership

Fortinet’s efforts were acknowledged across several benchmarks in 2024:

  • Named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (World and North America) for the third year running
  • Improved CDP Climate Change score from B- to B
  • Recognised by Glassdoor and Great Place to Work as a top employer
  • Ranked #7 on Forbes’ Most Trusted Companies in America list—highest among cybersecurity firms

The 2024 report aligns with global reporting frameworks including the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), SASB Standards, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). It focuses on eight priority themes: innovation and responsible technology, cybercrime disruption, climate change, product impact, inclusion and belonging, the cybersecurity skills gap, business ethics, and data privacy.
